Nintendo says the DSi is not there to kill the iPod Touch

By Luke • Mar 4th, 2009 • Category: MP3 Players, Video Games Consoles

There are several stories of the new DSi being a big competition for the iPod Touch. Its music playback function and dual cameras are assumed to be a threat for the mobile phones as well. But before this speculation could go more complex, Satoru Iwata, the Nintendo CEO decided to express a positive opinion. The Nintendo DSi page of the company in which the “Iwata Asks” post communicated that these notions are ridiculous. He added that Nintendo has not designed DSi to kill the iPod Touch or any other existing products. This issue has been exaggerated by the mass media and created an impression that Nintendo DSi wants to compete with iPod or mobile phones. He said that the advanced features like music players and cameras are there to improve the product and not to pose any threat to the existing products.

Iwata further clarified that “I hope those who have such an impression will take an interest in what Nintendo can make when it dedicates itself to pleasing as many people as possible who pick up as DS, and I hope they’ll actually pick one up themselves.”

However, if we scrutinize the situation, we won’t find it difficult to agree with Iwata because a camera of 0.3 mega pixel and a music player are that outstanding features that can actually outshine the Apple iPod. So if you are looking forward to buy a DSi, its better to have balanced expectations from it. Don’t expect it to replace the Apple iPod touch 32 GB and just welcome it as a gaming device , which as per Nintendo is ‘the next generation of handheld gaming’. Get it for what it is!

By Jason • Jan 21st, 2009 • Category: Video Games Consoles

Do you remember any video games that you tried to play during your childhood but didn’t succeed in killing the final boss? Well, I remember one, i.e. Super Contra and I am sure that most of the video game enthusiasts have one or more such games that they wish to replay over and over again. But the problem is the new era is filled with loads of high definition games and advanced gaming consoles. This is good but the major drawback is that none of the modern day’s sophisticated handheld consoles support old legendary games.

But you can still step in to the gaming world of the 90’s if you have the SEGA Megadrive Handheld gaming console. Developed by SEGA, the Megadrive Handheld offers the old time gaming pros all those legacy video games that still resides in their minds. You can revisit the old time gaming environment right on your fingertips, anytime you want. The Megadrive Handheld is the portable version of the original SEGA Mega Drive, the classic gaming console that was very much popular in its time (nearly as popular as Wii consoles are today). You can play games like Alex Kidd, Arrow Flash, Crack down, Ecco, Mean Bean Machine, Golden Axe, Jewel Master and much more on this console. A large number of games are available for Sega Megadrive Handheld.

The overall looks of the console are good. It sports a game pad and functional keys. The screen size is medium sized. Don’t expect the same level of quality the Sony PlayStation Portable offers. You can connect the Megadrive Handled to your TV for getting a large and better display.

BGP100 Bluetooth Game Pad for Mobile Phones

By Jason • Jan 5th, 2009 • Category: Mobile Phones

A few days back Sony Ericsson offered an incredible combo with the W760i and Zeemote JS1 Wireless game controller. It seems that mobile owners are welcoming such gaming devices with full excitement. So now there is another mobile gaming device on the market, namely the Bluetooth mobile-compatible BGP100 game pad.

It’s a four way directional control pad with intuitive controls. There is a D-pad and one buttons pad consisting seven programmable buttons that can be used to assign hot keys while playing the game. With it you can basically transform Windows Mobile and Symbian phones, like the Nokia E71 into a mobile handheld device resembling the Nintendo DS or Sony PSP. Another important feature of the BGP100 wireless game controller is that it can be attached to the mobile phone with the help of supplied rubber strips. The mobile phone sits in between the D-pad and the button pad. So, this way you can transform the mobile into a PlayStation Portable like device. This is in contrast to the Zeemote JS1 wireless game controller as it cannot be attached to the mobile in this way. So, the BGP100 offers more convenient way to play on the mobile phones.

With the BGP100 Bluetooth game pad you can gain full control over your character while playing the game. All it requires is a 1.5V AAA battery to offer you three and a half hours of non-stop game play. It can also connect to Pocket PCs, in addition to most Windows Mobile and Symbian mobiles.

Is the iPhone a real Challenge to the PSP as a gaming Platform?

By Audrey • Jan 1st, 2009 • Category: Video Games Consoles

Up until now the two most popular handheld consoles are undoubtedly the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. The PSP is very popular around the globe, though it has seen a recent slump in gaming titles, and trails the DS Lite in terms of sales. In its weakened state the PSP has even been challenged by the Apple iPhone, and iPod touch, which could threaten to overtake it. Apple is putting extra emphasis on turning these two handhelds, one a phone and the other an MP3 player, in viable gaming platforms.

A new and aspiring gamer looking for a handheld console can easily get confused while making a choice between iPhone and PSP. It’s really hard to compare them as both of them offer spectacular gaming on the go. The only factor which can help is individual’s taste and preferences. Both the PSP and iPhone, and Apple iPod touch as well of course, render awesome graphics and quality sound. Apart from this both the consoles have a number of games released for them and both the devices can be used to enjoy and store multimedia. The only differentiating factors are the other functions offered by these two handhelds, controls and the cost.

If you want to make and receive the calls, apart from gaming, then naturally the iPhone is a good device to have. However this involves lots of monthly expenditure in the form of mobile subscription plan. Apart from this the iPhone’s cost itself is much more than the PSP. So if you are no interested in making calls then definitely go for PlayStation Portable. Besides this the PSP is a console that is optimized for gaming only. So ergonomically, it’s more comfortable to pay games on it instead of playing on the iPhone. PSP offers D-pad, four action buttons and joystick. However, it does not offer touch screen gaming like the iPhone.
